The BEST skating club in Bolton... Officially!
Home      About Our Club

Red Rose Roller Skating was formed in 2001.

in 1993 Paula Callaghan took her daughter Nicola roller skating at the age of 10 to a small dance studio in Bolton town center. From there Nicola was invited to Silver Wheels at Altrincham on a social session; Nicola prompty broke her wrist on the first session. Paula promised Nicola that if she were to continue, she would have skating lessons.

Nicola then went to a club teaching skating in Kearsley where Paula discovered that skating is suitable for all ages and abilities, so Paula and Nicola practised and developed skills until they out grew the club.

From then on, Paula and Nicola started to skate at Manchester United RSC and became more involved in the test and competative side of skating whilst keeping up the social side of things. Paula's mother Connie took interest and supported her daughter and Grand daughter in their skating interests, and Bill Carroll who had skated socially for a number of years became Paula's partner.

After four sucessful years at Manchester, it was time for a change, Paula and Nicola joined Nottingham RSC, experience was gained in that 12 comperitions were entered in a year. Many medals and some trophies were won. Unfortunately though Nottingham club split into two sections and due to distance problems it was no longer feasable to travel do far.

At a social session at Altrincham, Paula got together with Connie, Bill and a few other adults and decided that there should be a local club which catered for both social and competitive skaters at an affordable price.

Red Rose Roller Skating was born in 2001, and affiliated to the Federation of Artistic Roller Skating in 2002.

Special mention and recognition to Carl Stirling (Manchester United), Ken Noall (Nottingham ) and Ian Watkins (Caprice) for grass roots and support.
